This report describes study that was conducted to test whether intimate partner violence victims gain greater legal protections in child custody cases when represented by an attorney. The study involved cases in King County, Washington between the years 2000 and 2010 and found that attorney representation was associated with greater protections, particularly when the representation was by legal aid attorneys.
