Model Protocol Safety Planning for Domestic Violence Victims with Disabilities

General Material
Published Date
January, 2010
Author(s)

The goal of this protocol and recommended policies is to support domestic violence agencies to increase their safety planning services to people with disabilities and advance self-determination for people with disabilities by offering safety planning that is cognizant of environmental and social barriers. This protocol does not review basic safety planning strategies, building instead on existing knowledge of advocates. The protocol gives specific information about responding in a crisis, responding when there is more time to plan and prepare, specific considerations for a variety of disabilities and a sample of safety planning questions.
