General Material

Author(s)

This report contains analyses of the Domestic Violence Screening Instrument (DVSI), which is used by the State of Hawaii to determine supervision levels for adult domestic violence offenders. The DVSI contains 12 questions that are designed to elicit information that is pertinent to determining an offender’s supervision level, including: (1) criminal history; (2) past DV, alcohol, or substance abuse treatment; (3) past DV restraining/protective orders, including violations; (3) previous non-compliance with community supervision; and (4) various other static and dynamic factors. The DVSI analyses indicate that the instrument is accurately classifying offenders based on risk.
