For Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we refer to the equation “Awareness + Action = Social Change” as a call to communities to be an active part of ending gender-based violence.

These best practices emphasize the use of collaborative, victim-centered, and multidisciplinary approaches to improve evidence collection and preservation, increase consistency and provide uniformity for the prioritization and transferal of evidence, enhance laboratory process efficiencies for DNA testing, and advance investigative practices and agency protocols.

A multisector health equity approach addresses the underlying contributors to DV and inequities in DV (harmful norms, weak community responses, housing insecurity, economic insecurity, and others) and promotes community environments that support safe and equitable relationships and communities. This publication offers research, analysis, and frameworks to understand factors within communities that support safe relationships and reduction of domestic violence.

Sexual Assault Response Teams (SARTs) provide an organized and community-based response to sexual assault, bringing together a collection of stakeholders including rape victim advocates, medical/forensic examiners, law enforcement, and prosecutors.
