Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence Growing Together Project: An Analysis of Focus Groups with Mothers and Youth Statewide

In 2011, WCADV conducted 6 adult and 2 youth focus groups at DV programs in eight locations around Wisconsin. The purpose of these groups was to understand more about how DV has affected mother-child relationships and learn more about what these mothers and children need from DV programs. The focus groups were supplemented with information gathered from children in support groups in local domestic violence programs. National Recommended Best Practices for Serving LGBT Homeless Youth

These recommendations for best practices for serving LGBT homeless youth include three sections. The first section consists of steps individuals who have regular direct contact with youth can take to improve experiences of LGBT youth in accessing services. The second section provides information on steps to improve agency-wide culture and effectiveness in serving LGBT youth. The third section outlines specific steps for administrators and youth workers to improve experiences of youth in residential settings such as emergency shelters and longer term transitional living.
