With the holiday season approaching, questions arise about the connection between domestic violence and distinctive holidays. This brief document offers guidance from the NRCDV Technical Assistance Team. This document provides an analysis of the available data on the volume of request for domestic violence services during the holidays, and offers recommendations for advocates on how to help survivors during this time of year.

This Guide showcases the nine demonstration projects funded by the FVPSA Program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through Stamp Out Family Violence Act of 2001, focusing on their goals, collaborative partnerships, experiences, challenges, and successes. These Demonstration of Enhanced Services to Children and Youth Exposed to Domestic Violence sites expanded the fieldÕs understanding of the varied ways in which children, youth and families experiencing domestic violence can be identified and provided essential services and supports.

The Model Medication Policy is designed to offer guidance to domestic violence programs on adopting medication policies that are accessible, trauma informed, and compliant with anti-discrimination laws.

This report highlights data that documents how well local domestic violence programs are addressing the needs of those reaching out to them for assistance. This substantial data collection effort involved 90 urban, rural and suburban community-based domestic violence programs and nearly 1,500 domestic violence survivors surveyed in 2010 about their experiences seeking and receiving non-residential domestic violence services.

This online learning module features the diaries of three children in different age groups, sharing their experiences of exposure to domestic violence and offering related best practice themes for shelter advocates and other social service providers. Includes a downloadable guide for practice and a digital library of short audio programs.

This document reviews the new research, policies, and programs focused on children who have witnessed adult domestic violence. It argues that the diversity of children’s experiences requires equally diverse responses from those who serve them.

It is important that all programs think about and discuss what information they keep and why. This resource provides a set of sample forms that shelters can use to collect information about clients, and includes rationale for data elements included and excluded.

This 1.5 hour webinar explores practical approaches to supporting parenting in shelter. The presenters offer suggestions for policy change, making space for parenting, and for providing survivor centered advocacy that helps rebuild parent/child bonds and resiliency.

In 2011, WCADV conducted 6 adult and 2 youth focus groups at DV programs in eight locations around Wisconsin. The purpose of these groups was to understand more about how DV has affected mother-child relationships and learn more about what these mothers and children need from DV programs. The focus groups were supplemented with information gathered from children in support groups in local domestic violence programs. This resource is designed to help advocates and trans survivors themselves navigate sex-segregated services. It also provides concrete advice on how service providers can think beyond sex-segregation.

This manual addresses the dynamics of domestic violence in immigrant families; ways to create agency-wide cultural competency training programs; multicultural approaches to shelter protocol development; recruiting and hiring multicultural staff; foreign language needs and helpful interviewing techniques for client intake sessions and meetings; ways to do outreach and collaboration with immigrant communities; and, descriptions of model programs.
