Lakshmi Puri on combating violence against women worldwide – video from The Guardian, 11/12/12

Monday, November 12, 2012

“Lakshmi Puri hails the increase of women in parliaments, including in Libya, Algeria and Senegal. UN campaigns, including secretary general Ban Ki-moon’s push for the world to unite against violence against women and a programme via the girl guides and scouts network to educate young people, are attempting to end the scourge of domestic violence, but the deputy executive director of UN Women says it remains a problem for countries big and small, developed and developing, and she argues that ending violence is closely aligned to women’s economic and political empowerment.”
