Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (MCEDSV) Content Topic Results

This two-part webinar series on social marketing for advocacy organizations outlines basic marketing concepts and explains how domestic and sexual violence organizations can apply these concepts to their prevention and outreach efforts.

An important capacity-building goal of the Open Doors Project is to enhance the community collaboration between DV/SA advocates, community service providers and those working in the criminal justice and corrections systems. The goal of these collaborations is to facilitate a shared objective of keeping women safe and out of jails and prisons.

Intimate partner and sexual violence are critical issues that call for community-oriented approaches to stopping violence before it can begin.

With news media serving as a primary source of information for most adults in the United States, journalists are in a unique position to frame the public discussion on sexual assault. The toolkit, compiled with input from reporters, editors, publishers, and representatives from the Michigan Press Association (MPA), is designed to assist journalists in accurately and fairly covering incidents of sexual assault in their communities. The information was gathered specifically to facilitate access to information for reporters when covering a specific crime or public interest story.

This guide provides helpful program evaluation strategies for sexual violence programs, including process and outcome evaluation, logic models, data collection, and analysis. Samples are provided.

The Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence has been working with journalists, state administrators, victim advocates, and educators to address sexual assault coverage by the media, specifically newspapers. The workgroup created a resource called "Reporting Sexual Assault: A Guide for Journalists." This document was developed to encourage more accurate and compassionate reporting on sexual assault by newspaper journalists and editors in Michigan. This Service Provider tool kit is a companion to the "Guide for Journalists." It includes some basic information about the media, and provides a foundation for reshaping the public discussion on sexual assault. MCADSV hopes that this resource will encourage relationships between local media and sexual assault programs. This resource will prepare advocates to be responsive while proposing strategies for approaching local media outlets.
