HMIS - Homeless Management Information Systems

Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) is a computer-based data collection system that stores private information on individuals and families receiving homeless assistance services such as transitional housing, emergency shelter and food. According to HUD, an HMIS is "[A] computerized data collection application that facilitates the collection of information on homeless individuals and families using residential or other homeless assistance services and stores that data in an electronic format." 69 Fed. Reg. 45888 (Jul. 30, 2004).
