Special Collections

VAWnet's Special Collections are organized lists of select resources on specific topics related to gender-based violence that provide contextual information to encourage critical analysis. Collections are developed by the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence in collaboration with consultants and partner organizations. All collections are subjected to a peer-review process where seasoned advocates, academics, and other professionals in the field with particular expertise in the issue at hand are invited to provide input and recommend resources.

Navigating the Civil Legal System: Resources for Survivors of Domestic Violence, Their Advocates, and Legal Professionals

Survivors of domestic violence can face a number of legal issues that either directly stem from, or are affected by, the actions of those who use abuse and violence. These issues can include obtaining protection orders against an abuser; filing for divorce; seeking custody of and/or visitation with minor children; and filing for child support. This Special Collection is specifically focused on those legal issues most commonly arising in family court.

Violence in the Lives of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing

This Special Collection offers information regarding the experiences and needs of individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing and have experienced abuse. The purpose of this collection is to: 1) increase victim advocates' knowledge and understanding of Deaf culture, 2) provide resources to assist helping professionals in direct service work with Deaf individuals, and 3) highlight best practices for addressing domestic and sexual violence in the Deaf community.
