2021 National Imam & Chaplain Training

Event Type
Event Date
Friday, September 24, 2021, 08:00AM
- Sunday, September 26, 2021

Peaceful Families Project (PFP) is profoundly grateful and excited to announce their intent to host the Annual National Imam/Chaplain Training (Insha’Allah) on September 24-26, 2021 projected to be in the Washington, D.C./Northern VA area.

This event has traditionally included two days of live interactive training for Imams/Chaplains addressing the sensitive issues related to Domestic Violence (DV) from an Islamic perspective. Imams/Chaplains are the cornerstone of Muslim communities and are often called upon to assist individuals and families to navigate the most difficult circumstances with little training and fewer resources.  PFP offers this opportunity for Imams/Chaplains to gather and receive both knowledge and support to better serve their congregations.

The two-day intensive training will be led by Imam Mohamed Magid and Salma Elkadi Abugideiri, LPC. Workshop topics will include:

  • The impact of DV on the family and community
  • Discussions to develop strategies for effective leadership response to DV
  • Understanding legal aspects of DV
  • Best practices for DV prevention.

PFP seeks a group of Imams/Chaplains that are representative geographically, linguistically, and culturally of the Muslim ummah in the United States and who acknowledge and have a passion for addressing/eliminating DV in our communities. Candidates should be proficient in the english Language, be committed to learning more about DV, and gaining tools to respond appropriately and effectively when faced with these challenging cases.

PFP is gathering the names of potential participants who are willing and comfortable to travel for participation in a live 2-3 day event (up to 12 participants). They are also seeking an additional 5-7 participants for a potential virtual option to run simultaneously to the live event
