Courts across the country are continuously looking to improve custody and visitation decision-making for families experiencing domestic violence. Under the Family Court Enhancement Project (FCEP), Hennepin County's Fourth Judicial District was selected and funded by the Office on Violence Against Women to do exactly that. After engaging in a multi-year process of transforming their family court, Hennepin County will share lessons learned and promising practices around custody and visitation in the presence of domestic violence. Specifically, presenters will share successes, challenges, and strategies for applying community and culturally-specific approaches throughout the family court system to foster innovation.
This webinar will detail how Hennepin County sought and integrated feedback from litigants, family court practitioners, advocates, and other community members into their court system reform practices. Understanding that listening to the voices from their community would be critical, reform efforts included deliberate and on-going engagement with a wide range of stakeholders especially those from the Native communities.
