Culturally-Informed Prevention: Preventing sexual and domestic violence in communities of color

Event Date
Wednesday, August 15, 2018, 02:00PM

Prevention work in all communities should be culturally informed - not only drawing from research, but also addressing community context. Culturally-informed prevention bolsters the cultural strengths of a community (e.g. traditions, arts, etc.). At the same time, it challenges what is harmful such as patriarchal practices that devalue women and girls. Join PreventConnect to learn from advocates and practitioners who are embracing culture as an asset across racial and ethnic lines and working in and with communities of color to create inclusive, safe environments. Guests will share how they consider history and social and culture norms to not only resonate with communities, but also build on strengths to prevent sexual and domestic violence.
