Has a domestic violence survivor ever asked you if she can leave Pennsylvania with her children? Have you ever worked with a survivor who has fled to Pennsylvania with her children for safety? Do you know what to do when a court in one state has entered a custody order and a court in another state has entered a protection order about the same children?
The Legal Resource Center on Violence Against Women [LRC], in partnership with Women Against Abuse, is offering a free training that will provide participants with an overview of the various federal and state laws that govern interstate custody cases. The training is designed for attorneys and victim advocates who wish to understand the basic framework of how these laws fit together and will include an overview of the laws involved when victims relocate with children across state lines, to or from Pennsylvania. This training is supported by the Valentine Foundation.
The LRC is a nonprofit organization that works to improve legal representation for domestic violence survivors in interstate custody cases. The LRC helps survivors to obtain legal representation for such cases and provides technical assistance to victim advocates and attorneys who are assisting victims in such cases.
