Immigration Relief for Victims of Crime

Event Date
Thursday, March 04, 2021, 10:00AM

Immigrant victims are often reluctant to seek help, report crime and cooperate with law enforcement due to fear of deportation from the United States. Immigration relief for crime victims is an essential part of finding safety, protection and healing. Obtaining legal immigration status for victims can restore a measure of safety and security to their lives, because it removes the threat of deportation - a threat that is systematically weaponized by abusers and other criminals in the perpetration of crimes against immigrants. This training will provide a brief background on some basic immigration concepts and statuses. Participants will discuss immigrant vulnerability to crime, explore options immigrant victims may have to legalize their status and learn several types of applications specific to immigrant crime victims though case examples.
