Prevention Programming Content Topic Results

In September 2020, the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence held its first National Prevention Town Hall. In this breakout session, presenters Shay Upadhyay and Colleen Yeakle highlight rationale for engaging youth in prevention activities and lessons learned from Indiana's efforts to center youth-defined prevention strategies.

At this moment, together we bear witness as the pandemic of racial injustice, systemic oppression, and exploitation continues to rage across the country, causing many losses. On February 20, 2020, the Every Woman Institute released its first-ever Safer Sooner Report. The Safer Sooner Report identifies gaps under current international systems in addressing and preventing violence against women and girls, and maps out a path to a world where every woman can claim her right to live free from violence.

People with risk factors may be more likely to experience violence. Meanwhile, protective factors can help buffer people from violence. This video humanizes both types of factors by using actors on a stage to show how people can move up or get held back in life, depending on positive or negative impacts.

This white paper explains how and why LGBTQ children and youth experience disproportionate rates of violence and trauma, and how those experiences tend to lead to even more violence and trauma down the road. Most importantly, it explains how this trajectory can be disrupted, even by neighbors and other bystanders.
