Representing directions for the field of sexual and domestic violence prevention, this report summarizes the 2017 PreventConnect web conference series that focused on community-level prevention strategies, partnering with other sectors and movements, and how sexual and domestic violence relate to health equity and multiple forms of violence. It draws together high-level themes that unify the series as a whole, and provides key findings from each of the eight web conferences, allowing the ideas, examples, and resources from the web conferences to live on in written form.

Over the course of 8 web conferences, three overall themes emerged:

Sexual and domestic violence prevention practitioners increasingly operationalize a health equity approach by addressing the root factors of violence and working together with communities to find solutions.
Practitioners and advocates continue to improve elements of the sociocultural environment such as norms and social networks, and are expanding their efforts to improve the physical/built environment and economic opportunities.
More and more practitioners and advocates are working to change community and organizational norms to make sexual and domestic violence community issues that demand community-wide action.

This report describes the evolving field of sexual and domestic violence prevention, and summarizes key findings, examples of innovative work, and resources from PreventConnect's 2016 web conference series. From strategies to address multiple forms of violence and community trauma to exploring alliance-building with social justice movements such as economic justice and immigration reform, the report highlights real-world examples of quality prevention and ideas for collaborative action. Key points include:

A growing number of practitioners are focusing on inequities in sexual and domestic violence.
Sexual and domestic violence prevention practitioners are increasingly working across multiple forms of violence and trauma.
Practitioners are addressing underlying factors that can reduce levels of sexual and domestic violence, bringing together feminism and public health.
The field’s enduring commitment to community partnerships and empowerment is foundational to preventing sexual and domestic violence.
The field is recognizing that alignment with social justice movements and other sectors is critical to bring together diverse perspectives, mobilize new approaches, and achieve shared goals.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released a report from the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS) that includes national and state-level findings from data collected from 2010-2012 on sexual violence, intimate partner violence and stalking. In the web conference, CDC described the findings of the report and explored the implications for prevention of domestic violence and sexual violence.
