The surveys showed that both types of abuse were prevalent among hotline callers. Mental health coercion involves issues such as an abuser threatening to tell authorities that a victim is “crazy,” an abuser trying to manipulate a victim into questioning her own mental health, and an abuser preventing a victim from accessing mental health treatment. Substance abuse coercion involves issues such as an abuser pressuring or forcing a victim to use alcohol or drugs, an abuser threatening to report a victim’s substance use to authorities as a manipulation tactic, and an abuser preventing a victim from accessing substance abuse treatment. The report explains that mental health and substance abuse practitioners and law enforcement and legal professionals need to be aware of these issues in order to work effectively with victims who have undergone these types of coercion.</p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-associated-links field--type-link field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Associated Links</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="http://www.nationalcenterdvtraumamh.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/NCDVTMH_NDVH_MHSUCoercionSurveyReport_2014-2.pdf" target="_blank">Mental Health and Substance Use Coercion Surveys</a></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-material-categories field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Material Categories</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/materials/domestic-violence" hreflang="und">Domestic Violence</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/materials/mental-health" hreflang="und">Mental Health</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/materials/substance-abuse" hreflang="und">Substance Abuse</a></div> </div> </div> Fri, 15 Jul 2016 16:37:04 +0000 Anonymous 7551 at https://vawnet.org Real Tools: Responding to Multi-Abuse Trauma: A Tool Kit to Help Advocates and Community Partners Better Serve People with Multiple Issues https://vawnet.org/material/real-tools-responding-multi-abuse-trauma-tool-kit-help-advocates-and-community-partners <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">Real Tools: Responding to Multi-Abuse Trauma: A Tool Kit to Help Advocates and Community Partners Better Serve People with Multiple Issues</span> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><span lang="" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden">Fri, 10/03/2014 - 11:15</span> <div class="field field--name-field-material-type field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item">Training Tools</div> <div class="field__item">General Material</div> </div> <drupal-render-placeholder callback="flag.link_builder:build" arguments="0=node&amp;1=6246&amp;2=bookmark" token="y5nXC_Wv9_FTOX1nNOyVY_DoariIdlWCoKzukqZhq84"></drupal-render-placeholder> <div class="field field--name-field-published-date field--type-datetime field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Published Date</div> <div class="field__item">January, 2011</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-publisher field--type-entity-reference field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Publisher(s)</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/publisher/alaska-network-domestic-violence-and-sexual-assault-andvsa" hreflang="en">Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (ANDVSA)</a></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-author field--type-entity-reference field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Author(s)</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/author/debi-s-edmund" hreflang="en">Debi S.
