This interactive online course is designed to increase advocates’ and other victim service professionals’ capacity for serving victims of sexual violence in later life.

In many places, the trauma resulting from violence and other severe stressors has been addressed mainly by trained mental health workers. At the same time, research has explored the harmful effects of trauma and suggested ways to address them.

This course, designed for advocates (military and civilian) who provide services to military-related families experiencing intimate partner violence, pulls together information about military and combat-related issues as they intersect with intimate partner violence. The self-paced course includes eight modules with mini-lectures, case studies, video clips, practice scenarios, and opportunities for self-assessment to test mastery of course content. On August 15, 2012 the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) began accepting applications for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). This is a new policy which permits individuals under the age of 31, who arrived to the U.S. before the age of 15 and currently have undocumented legal status, to apply for deferred action if they meet certain criteria. Although this remedy is not specific to survivors, it is important for domestic violence/sexual assault programs to be familiar with this remedy and make sure survivors are aware of this option.
