HIV in the Asian American and Pacific Islander Community

HIV and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) share a common set of factors and considerations that place women and adolescent girls at risk. Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women and girls face unique obstacles as they operate in a social sphere shrouded in silence about HIV and IPV, surrounded by stigma and hampered by the lack of data and investments into tailored, gender-based strategies. Both biological and societal vulnerabilities impact AAPI women and girls’ ability to stay healthy, get tested and access treatments and supports (APIGBV, 2016).
