"This resource draws together, in one place, information from the best and latest research for professionals and volunteers who help women and children. Topics addressed include what children might feel, think and do during violent incidents against their mothers, roles they might adopt before, during or after incidents, strategies of coping and survival, and how violence may be experienced by children of different ages, from infancy to adolescence. The purpose is to examine how violence against a mother can shape a child.

This summary provides information on MIÕs efforts to develop a feminist, empowerment-based framework for providing transitional supportive housing for survivors of domestic violence. It describes who was interviewed and gives a brief summary of the results of the study, which includes information on eligibility, services offered, rules and regulations, safety, relationship with staff, most helpful services and what would happen if transitional housing had not been available.

Pregnant women's experiences and needs for emotional support, physical well-being, access to healthcare and other community-based services are significantly different from women who are not pregnant. For pregnant women also dealing with past or current domestic violence and currently residing in a domestic violence shelter or safe house, the multitude of experiences and needs may be even greater.

Be the change we wish to see in the world. That is just what the staff of the NRCDV had in mind when we launched the Access Initiative in 2006. The Initiative represented NRCDV's organizational commitment -- as an employer, service provider, and community member -- to individuals with disabilities and accessibility in general.

The holiday season (defined here as the time period beginning the week of Thanksgiving through New Year's Day) can present both opportunities and challenges for survivors and advocates in shelter. This Technical Assistance Guidance discusses some issues to consider as programs work with survivors and their families during this time of year. Offering a range of supportive programing can increase the chances that residents will have a positive shelter experience. Included are practical, cost-effective interventions, which may be easily adopted at any shelter program.

With the holiday season approaching, questions arise about the connection between domestic violence and distinctive holidays.
