Report to the Attorney General on Delays in Forensic DNA Analysis

This report addresses the serious issue of the backlog in the analysis of convicted offender DNA samples. The NIJ assembled a task force to assess the delays in existing DNA analysis and develop recommendations for eliminating those delays. The report lists six recommendations for reducing the DNA backlog.

Federal Housing and Domestic Violence: Introduction To Programs, Policy, And Advocacy Opportunities

Provides an excellent basic overview of federal rental housing programs for a domestic violence advocate (but it does not include housing issues affecting battered immigrant women or the Indian Housing Block Grant Program). The paper identifies key policy issues and trends in housing policy that are still relevant today. Key domestic violence policy issues are addressed through case examples and discussion questions for critical thinking. Specific advocacy interventions are reviewed. A glossary defines core housing terms.

The Migration-Trafficking Nexus: Combating trafficking through the protection of migrants' human rights

The paper provides an overview of trafficking in people internationally and discusses migration today, including both push and pull factors that encourage international migration. Illustrations and examples from various regions around the world are highlighted. This document focuses on the need to recognize and respect the labor and human rights of all migrant workers as set out in the UN Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Their Families, 1990. A selected bibliography and useful websites are provided.

Innovative Strategies To Provide Housing For Battered Women

Highlights how eight domestic violence organizations are responding to the housing needs of battered women in their communities. Housing And Battered Women: A Case Study of Domestic Violence Programs in Iowa

Describes the design, implementation and results of a case study conducted in 1997 of Iowa's domestic violence programs. The goals of the study were to describe the housing services currently provided to battered women by domestic violence programs, and identify barriers battered women face in securing affordable housing. The collaborative project received support from the University of Iowa - School of Social Work, the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence. A copy of the survey instrument is included in the Appendix.

This is a summary of the findings from a 90 day review of sexual assault policies and programs among the military services and the Department of Defense, and the recommendations for change to better serve victims and increase prevention efforts.
