This resource addresses some of the root causes of HIV disparity in the Black community, and some of the interventions Ryan White grantees are using to close the gap. It includes statistics, graphs, charts, and also personal narratives and client stories. In particular it discusses some of the unique barriers that Black women face, not only in mitigating risk of HIV (violence, inability to negotiate safe sex, small dating pool), but also barriers to staying in care; primary caretaking role, missing appointments due to children’s needs, skipping medication due to cost- and weighing that cost with the cost of feeding a family.
