Domestic Violence Awareness: Action for Social Change

NRCDV Publications
General Material
Published Date
January, 2005

Intended to begin to illustrate the tremendous power, creativity and mobilization of advocates nationwide and also to inspire each of us to move beyond minimum standards of operation. This first installment includes a record of some advocates' discussions of social change, gender and language and analyses of violence against women. It also includes the beginning of a new section titled "Working within Our Own Communities," comprised to date of contributions from advocates in Asian and Pacific Islander, Native and older adult communities.

This work offers opportunities for reflection, critical analysis, and action by advocates seeking to shift paradigms and place policy advocacy in a social change movement.

The DVAP is coordinated by the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence in collaboration with the Project Advisory Group, a unique partnership of local, tribal, state and national domestic violence organizations and networks. The DVAP strives to develop and distribute resources and ideas relevant to your ongoing public and prevention education efforts in preparation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), observed in October, and throughout the year. For more information about the Domestic Violence Awareness Project, please contact the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence by telephone at (800) 537-2238 or TTY at (800) 553-2508."
