Domestic Violence in Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, and Bisexual Communities: Trainers Manual

Training Tools
General Material
Published Date
June, 2010

The purpose of the training curriculum is "to give health and human service providers the knowledge and skills necessary to sensitively and effectively respond to LGTB victims" of domestic violence.

This training manual may serve as a model for the implementation of similar training programs for varying audiences including, but not limited to, domestic violence advocates, health care providers, educators, law enforcement personnel, social workers, and the general public. Whoever the audience, all participants should have a basic knowledge of domestic violence issues ("DV 101") prior to engaging in this training, as the information in this manual builds upon that basic knowledge. Trainers should introduce this curriculum with the sensitivity it requires by affirming participants' confidentiality. Also, folks who are interested in applying this curriculum in their state should note that information in this manual about mandatory reporting laws, local resources, etc. is specific to New York State. Please look up the appropriate information for your state before implementing this program.

Any questions, training or technical assistance requests related to this manual may be directed to: HIV Education and Training Programs, NYS Department of Health AIDS Institute. 518-474-3045. See their Statewide Calendar of HIV/AIDS Trainings.
