In response to a request by Congress, the GAO undertook a comprehensive assessment of state policies and implementation strategies with regards to caseloads for federal TANF and state MOE assistance, work requirements, and families who have been excluded from TANF lifetime limits. This report details the results of site visits, telephone interviews, and surveys administered to TANF offices in all 50 states and the District of Columbia between August 2001- June 2002. The report also included detailed tables of state-level policies.
