This is a summary of a roundtable focused on criminalization policies and their effect on Black women and girls. Roundtable participants included survivors, scholars, advocates, and community activists with expertise on sexual assault and intimate partner violence against women. The discussion centered the experiences of Black women and girls who have survived domestic and sexual abuse and provided an opportunity to consider how the intersection of multiple aspects of a person’s identity (i.e., gender, race) shape their experience with criminalization policies.
