This monograph explores the role of the Black church in addressing intimate partner violence in the African American community. Survivors themselves have admitted to turning to clergy and faith communities for support and assistance when involved in an abusive relationship. For some survivors, engagement in a faith community and assistance received from clergy and/or their faith family fostered the strength they needed to cope with or leave abusive situations, provided them with much-needed support and assistance for doing so, and/or facilitated their spiritual healing. This monograph includes recommendations for facilitating spiritual healing and freedom from intimate partner violence.
