Climate disasters occur with increasing frequency worldwide, which means more and more nonprofits are experiencing them. What advice do survivors have for preparing?
In July 2022, the Kentucky River swelled to 22 feet above its normal level and put the small town of Whitesburg, KY, under water. Whitesburg is home to Appalshop, an Appalachian nonprofit dedicated to community storytelling. Floodwaters swept away some of Appalshop’s library, while other archived materials were severely damaged. In an interview with NPQ, Chad Hunter, Appalshop’s archive director, share lessons learned from the experience.
