During the introduction, Dr. Rebecca Campbell explains that the purpose of the webinar is to bridge the gap between scientific research and criminal justice practice by examining how traumatic experiences influence the brain and body. Drawing on more than twenty years of research involving survivors of sexual assault, she discusses how trauma can affect memory, emotions, behavior, and physical reactions, all of which can shape how survivors respond during investigations and legal proceedings. By increasing professionals' understanding of these trauma responses, Campbell hopes to promote more effective, compassionate, and victim-centered approaches within the criminal justice system.
