Dr. Peggy Giordano and her research team conducted a thirteen-year longitudinal study using surveys and interviews to examine young people's experiences with dating violence as they transitioned into adulthood. The research identified relationship processes that can increase the risk of teen dating violence as well as factors associated with desistance, or stopping violent behavior. The study also found that teens tend to show fewer gender differences in patterns of violence compared with adults and that teen dating violence is more often triggered by anger and conflict rather than issues of control.
