In 1990, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors authorized the establishment of a multi-jurisdictional, interdisciplinary Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Model in San Diego County. The two primary objectives of the SART Model were to improve the provision of services to victims of sexual assault in San Diego by providing sensitive, efficient, interdisciplinary services, and to ensure accurate evidence collection to promote the apprehension and prosecution of perpetrators. These Standards of Practice address the timelines and quality of examinations, access and availability, cost, prosecutability, and communications among providers of services.
