“The Defense Department’s newly organized child abuse working group will conduct a rapid review of child and domestic abuse and will issue its first report in February. The group project, which will last a year, was ordered in light of revelations of widespread child abuse in the services. Two ‘rapid improvement events’ are planned.

A newly released Verizon Foundation and More magazine survey asked more than 1,000 women about their health and well-being. The 44 percent who identified themselves as survivors of domestic abuse were 20 percent more likely to experience a chronic health condition compared with women who said they’d never been abused.

“The Avon Foundation launched Speak Out Against Domestic Violence in 2004 to support domestic violence awareness, education and prevention programs, as well as direct services for victims and their families.
