“With high profile cases of domestic violence in the news, such as George Zimmerman’s most recent arrest November 18, 2013 on aggravated assault and battery-domestic violence charges, the media has the opportunity to debunk myths and set the record straight on the realities of domestic violence.”
“The Defense Department’s newly organized child abuse working group will conduct a rapid review of child and domestic abuse and will issue its first report in February. The group project, which will last a year, was ordered in light of revelations of widespread child abuse in the services. Two ‘rapid improvement events’ are planned.
“The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape urge Pennsylvanians to post the message ‘NO MORE,’ accompanied with the hashtag #pasaysnomore, to their Twitter accounts Nov. 24.”
A newly released Verizon Foundation and More magazine survey asked more than 1,000 women about their health and well-being. The 44 percent who identified themselves as survivors of domestic abuse were 20 percent more likely to experience a chronic health condition compared with women who said they’d never been abused.
