Sex Trafficking and Disability

Event Date
Tuesday, January 24, 2023, 02:00PM

Due to systemic inequities, persons with disabilities are targeted at higher rates than their peers to exploitation and/or abuse, including sex trafficking. Sex traffickers deliberately target individuals they know they can isolate and control, and conditions surrounding persons with disabilities, including the lack of access to trafficking awareness training, legal and victims' rights advocacy, mental health, and economic support resources as well as challenges with reporting abuse, all increase the risk of exploitation. Furthermore, many survivors of trafficking report experiencing disabilities post-trafficking, often a result of their trafficking situation, however, there has been little done to provide resources and assistance to those survivors. In recognition of human trafficking awareness month, this webinar will explore the unique risk factors of persons with disabilities, and what service providers and communities can do to take action at multiple levels.
