"In 2003, regional workshops provided immigrant women the opportunity to share their knowledge with victim service providers, criminal justice personnel and state policy makers. The Center's Upstate Regional Workshop for S.T.O.P VAWA grantees was held on June 19, 2003 in Albany. A Downstate Regional Workshop was held on November 17, 2003 in New York City.
"Although the number of applications for VAWA status has increased, winning a VAWA self-petition is only the first step in achieving safety and independence. To gain lawful permanent residence, applicants must overcome additional legal barriers. The complicated phases of applying for immigration status coupled with the passage of VAWA 2000 have created new questions and the need for greater expertise."
This study reveals that the rate of abuse is higher among immigrant women who are married to American citizens. Examples of immigration-related tactics of abuse are provided.

The "Stand & Serve" approach utilizes developmental assets/positive youth development, community development, social norms, diffusion of innovation/peer education, social change, and marketing research to prevent violence.
"The Fourth R is a consortium of researchers and professionals dedicated to promoting healthy adolescent relationships and reducing risk behaviours. We develop and evaluate programs, resources and training materials for educators and other front-line professionals who work with youth. In particular, we work with schools to promote the neglected R (for relationships) and help build this Fourth R in school climates. Fourth R initiatives use best practice approaches to target multiple forms of violence, including bullying, dating violence, peer violence, and group violence.
