Economic Education Programs for Battered Women: Lessons Learned from Two Settings

This 18th paper in the BCSDV series discusses economic education, sometimes also called, "financial or economic literacy." The discussion describes well-established economic education programs based in domestic violence agencies in Iowa and St. Louis, Missouri and explores the effects of different settings on program development and evolution. The authors share the lessons learned from these programs' experiences and key issues to consider when developing economic education programs for battered women.

Deterring Staff Sexual Abuse of Federal Inmates

The Office of the Inspector General reviewed reports of such abuse in federal prison, examined the current statutes in place and deficiencies that exists in those statutes, compared state and local laws on staff abuse of inmates to federal laws, and gives recommendations for changes in the current law.

Domestic Violence Awareness: Action for Social Change

Intended to begin to illustrate the tremendous power, creativity and mobilization of advocates nationwide and also to inspire each of us to move beyond minimum standards of operation. This first installment includes a record of some advocates' discussions of social change, gender and language and analyses of violence against women.
