Housing Discrimination and Domestic Violence

This fact sheet gives examples of discriminatory actions that may be illegal, provides a broad overview of applicable federal and state laws, and outlines actions steps for those believing that they have been discriminated against. Both survivors and advocates can use this guide as a brief and clear manual regarding housing.

Domestic Violence and Homelessness

The factsheet includes general statistics about homelessness, domestic violence and poverty, and the consequences of being trapped between violence and homelessness. A critique of current state laws and recommendations for legislative advocacy to protect the homes of battered women are offered.

Early Lease Termination by Battered Tenant

The article also covers advocacy strategies, both through negotiation and litigation, in the absence of specific federal, state, and local laws covering survivors. The scope of the article includes private housing as well as leases in public and subsidized housing. Advocates may find this article useful for understanding what legal strategies may be employed by lawyers attempting to assist survivors with penalty-free, expedited, early lease termination.

Pathways to and from Homelessness: Women And Children In Chicago Shelters

Shelter supervisors and staff were also interviewed as to their perception of the needs of the shelter residents. Information about the women such as age, residence, education, health, criminal records, public benefits, children and repeated homelessness are detailed in the report. Additionally, factors contributing to the women's homelessness, and recommendations are also provided.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) 2012 Resources

The 2012 SAAM campaign provides tools and resources that focus on promoting positive expressions of sexuality and healthy behaviors. Promoting healthy behaviors encourages sexual interactions and relationships that are consensual, respectful and informed. By starting the conversation, this dialogue can build safe, healthy relationships and communities.

Prevention Assessment Year 2 Report: Innovations in Prevention

The second phase of NSVRC's Prevention Assessment project focused on interviews with innovative prevention programs and a diffusion survey to document how innovations have spread throughout the sexual violence prevention field. The emphasis of this assessment was on how programs are thinking about primary prevention and the processes that allowed innovation to develop.

Prevention Assessment Year 1 Report: National Strengths and Needs Assessment

In 2009, NSVRC contracted with Dr. Stephanie Townsend to assist in developing a plan to measure the primary prevention capacity of the sexual violence prevention field. This is a three-year process being conducted in collaboration with the CDC and CALCASA/Prevention Connection. This is the Year 1 report for the project.
