This survey report by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition discusses data obtained from 15 large lending institutions through the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act. The executive summary describes continuing fair lending disparities primarily affecting communities of color, women, and low-and moderate-income borrowers. The report finds that African-Americans receive the highest disparity of sub-prime (high cost) conventional loans. Hispanics and Native Americans also received a high disproportionate amount of sub-prime loans. Recommendations are provided.
Advocates may find this report helpful for its descriptions of sub-prime lending. Data may also be helpful for advocacy strategies addressing affordable homeownership.
