Model Policy for Law Enforcement on Communicating with People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

General Material
Published Date
January, 2006

This is a model policy by the U.S. Department of Justice that law enforcement agencies can modify for their own organizations as appropriate. It deals with how law enforcement officers should communicate with people who have hearing difficulties. The key point is that “people who are deaf or hard of hearing are entitled to a level of service equivalent to that provided to other persons.”
