Fall 2023: Heal, Hold & Center for DVAM

Monday, October 02, 2023

“Rarely if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.” – bell hooks

As we enter into Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) the Domestic Violence Awareness Project calls on us to Heal, Hold & Center survivors, especially those navigating anti-Blackness and other systems of oppression. Preventing domestic violence requires us to turn to each other, to embrace community care and connection in order to heal ourselves and our communities from the harms of white supremacy and other systems of oppression. It requires us to be survivor-centered and to follow the lead of Black women and gender expansive people. We know that there is no survivor justice without racial justice.

This issue of the PreventIPV newsletter highlights resources for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Resources feature a particular focus on promoting healing in our communities, holding space, and centering survivors in our prevention efforts.
