Press Release: Policy Recommendations to Increase Safe Housing for Survivors: Learning from & Leveraging Public-Private Partnerships

Friday, October 25, 2024

Today, the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence (NRCDV) is pleased to announce the release of Policy Recommendations to Increase Safe Housing for Survivors: Learning from & Leveraging Public-Private Partnerships. This report, co-authored by NRCDV, the STTARS Indigenous Safe Housing Center, and the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), is a resource for policymakers, service providers, and partners invested in meeting the housing needs of survivors.

On October 12-13, 2023 the Office of Family Violence Prevention Services hosted a roundtable discussion on safe housing solutions for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, with coordination by the STTARS, NRCDV, and NNEDV. Survivors, advocates, domestic and sexual violence coalitions, national housing experts, federal partners, and partners from public and private industries from across the country convened in Washington D.C. for a roundtable discussion on safe housing solutions for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. This report shares key insights and recommendations that emerged from the roundtable.

"Today, we take a significant step forward with our policy recommendations designed to enhance safe housing access and options for survivors of domestic violence and their families. Working with our partners nationwide, our goal is to ensure that every individual has access to the stability and security they need and deserve,” says Pamela Jacobs, Chief Executive Officer at NRCDV.

"These recommendations, compiled directly from the feedback of survivors and advocates, are a powerful gift to our society. I'm hopeful that decision makers from public and private industries will use the examples, solutions, and policy recommendations provided to advance and strengthen national housing responses that are safe, affordable, and sustainable,” says Shenna Morris, Vice President of Policy and Systems Change at NRCDV.
