This handbook is intended to assist family and friends of homicide victims in their grieving process and to explain what lies ahead with respect to the criminal case.

These findings are based on National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) data collected by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). The NCVS inquires about criminal victimizations from an ongoing, nationally representative sample of household residences in the United States. Violent acts examined include rape, sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, and simple assault.

As abstracted by BJS, it "presents information on the consequences of rape and sexual assault for female victims. The study provides the percentages of completed rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault of females that were reported to the police in 1992-2000. The report provides the percentage of victims that were injured and treated from a completed rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault.

Included are 1999 rates of intimate partner violence against females overall, rates for specific violent crimes (rape/sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault and simple assault), and 1993-1999 trends in fatal and nonfatal intimate partner violence. Also presented are 1993-99 aggregate rates of intimate partner violence by victim's age focusing further on victim's race, Hispanic origin, annual household income and marital status.

This research brief discusses the importance of documenting domestic violence in healthcare settings to establish factual evidence of the abuse and thereby strengthening legal cases for domestic violence survivors.

This Bulletin provides an anecdotal look at how U.S. SANE programs are impacting sexual assault victims, service practice, and communities.

The report analyses initial results gathered in 1988 and data gathered again from the same individuals in 1994. It has sections on brief issues and findings, key findings, the study design including their definitions of physical abuse and sexual abuse, and study findings, conclusions and implications. Study findings are detailed by gender, age, race, type of arrest, type of abuse, and juvenile record. The National Violence Against Women (NVAW) Survey sampled both women and men and thus provides comparable data on women's and men's experiences with violent victimization. Respondents to the survey were asked about physical assault (including rape and stalking) they experienced as children by adult caretakers and about what they experienced as adults by any type of assailant. Respondents who disclosed that they had been victimized were asked detailed questions about the characteristics and consequences of their victimization.
