Effectively Interviewing Adult Survivors of Sexual Assault who have Intellectual Disabilities

Law enforcement investigating cases involving adult victims of sexual assault with intellectual disabilities often feel unprepared to conduct an effective interview. They may not necessarily know how to ask the appropriate questions, how to interact with a support person, or how to work with someone who uses alternative communication.  As a result, adult victims with intellectual disabilities are either not being interviewed at all or being sent to individuals trained in interviewing children.  To better support law enforcement to feel comfortable conducting these interviews, Activating Change has developed a toolkit featuring recorded lectures, demonstration videos, and downloadable resources.  This session will explore the best practices for interviewing adults with intellectual disabilities and how to access the toolkit.
