This document features a discussion of the basic understanding of the place of religion in addressing domestic violence, illustrated through three western religious traditions: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

At this moment, together we bear witness as the pandemic of racial injustice, systemic oppression, and exploitation continues to rage across the country, causing many losses. This moment in time is a call for transformation – a critical opportunity to revisit the roots of our movement to end gender-based violence in ways that can purposefully restore humanity for all. Join NRCDV for a conversation about pivoting our work to meet this moment and co-creating the world we all deserve during Domestic Violence Awareness Month and beyond.

Through their Safety Fund launched in April 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, FreeFrom collected data from 1,300 survivors in 36 states and Puerto Rico on their financial health, the financial cost of experiencing abuse, what their needs are right now, and how our society can best support them through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. This report details these findings and serves as a call to action for greater investment in and support for the long-term financial security and safety of survivors everywhere.

Part II of the Enhancing Services to Male Survivors webinar series showcases the work of two domestic violence agencies that are leading the way as they expand their services to male survivors. The presenters share lessons learned through this process and offer promising practices to help build capacity to recognize and respond to the needs of male-identified survivors of domestic violence.

On February 20, 2020, the Every Woman Institute released its first-ever Safer Sooner Report. The Safer Sooner Report identifies gaps under current international systems in addressing and preventing violence against women and girls, and maps out a path to a world where every woman can claim her right to live free from violence.

On September 14, 2020, the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence and the National IPV Prevention Council, in partnership with the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence, and the Ohio Domestic Violence Network, hosted our first ever National Prevention Town Hall, highlighting innovative social change efforts in the East North Central Region of the United States. 

The To’ Kee Skuy’ Soo Ney-Wo-Chek’ project addresses the severe impact of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two spirit people (MMIWG2) and trafficking of Native people in Northern California, defined as from the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento up to the Oregon border. Over the course of this report, authors establish the scope and severity of MMIWG2 in Northern California based on our Year 1 findings, drawn from both quantitative and qualitative sources.

Pat II of the Self-Care & Healing During COVID-19 webinar series will focus on the impact of trauma and will explore how to center hope, healing, and resilience for ourselves and our community. The presenters will introduce a holistic healing approach involving culture, spirituality, civic action and collective healing.

Part I of the Self-Care & Healing During COVID-19 webinar series will walk participants through the dynamics of grief as we deal with loss and uncertainty, and as we let go of the shame and guilt related to it. Through discussion and group exercises, participants will gain practical skills to help bring self-compassion into their daily lives.
