This fact sheet addresses frequently asked questions regarding the updated definition of rape and the impact of updating the definition on crime statistics.

The new definition of rape, announced by the Attorney General in January of 2012, accounts for all forms of rape, regardless of the victim’s gender, relationship to the offender, or the mode of penetration. This fact sheet addresses the need for public information to explain an anticipated uptick in rape statistics and more in regards to funding.

This protocol from the Sexual Assault Interagency Council provides direction for professionals, counselors, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and other individuals in Denver who interact with victims of sexual assault, and a framework for the evaluation of their efforts.

Case unfounding is clearance method that includes, but is not limited to, cases that are determined to be false reports. Unfortunately, in many sexual assault cases, unfounding may also be used improperly to clear cases that are believed or assumed to be false, rather than factually proven to be false.

This protocol was created to assist Cambria County responders to simultaneously address the immediate health care and support needs of a victim and the future needs of the criminal justice system in the most competent, compassionate and effective manner possible.
