This reader-friendly handbook discusses some of the different forms of violence perpetrated against women in Brazil, including domestic violence, sexual abuse, and human trafficking. The publication provides a brief discussion of sexism, highlighting the many ways in which this oppressive system manifests in the Brazilian society. It also highlights the role of the women's movement in helping bring about important social changes.

State Court Processing of Domestic Violence Cases

This report demonstrates that state felony defendants charged with domestic violence were prosecuted, convicted and incarcerated at rates either equal to or higher than felony defendants charged with non-domestic violence. Data are also presented regarding court issued protection orders, guilty plea versus trial convictions, and the demographic characteristics of domestic violence defendants.
