This webinar, held on Monday, April 21, 2014, provided information for both victim advocates working in shelter settings as well as birth doulas, regarding the identification and impact of domestic violence and abuse in pregnant women. Likewise, the benefits of a partnership between these two groups was discussed as a way to further improve pregnancy and birth outcomes for pregnant survivors.

Pregnant women's experiences and needs for emotional support, physical well-being, access to healthcare and other community-based services are significantly different from women who are not pregnant. For pregnant women also dealing with past or current domestic violence and currently residing in a domestic violence shelter or safe house, the multitude of experiences and needs may be even greater.

On this webinar, Dr. Michele Decker discussed the link between dating/domestic violence and women's exposure to HIV. Ways to raise awareness, decrease stigma and increase services for HIV+ women were shared for crisis counselors, domestic violence victim advocates and shelter managers.
