This resource explains how safe placement in hotels can provide more flexibility in how survivors’ immediate safe housing needs may be addressed during a public health crisis, including for purposes of reducing the number of survivors in congregate housing, for sexual assault survivors where programs do not traditionally offer housing services, providing safer shelter alternatives to survivors with compromised immune systems, and more.

McCauley, Sc.D. of Michigan State University and one of the author on of the coordinated entry paper Assessing Vulnerability, Prioritizing Risk: The Limitations of the VI-SPDAT for Survivors of Domestic Violence. 

This article describes the common struggle with how to equitably and fairly implement coordinated entry (CE) through use of a screening tool that assigns points to individuals or families based on their ‘vulnerabilities.’ Offering an alternative, the authors conceptualize a decision tree accompanied with a model of brief and focused conversations to better determine housing needs for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Persons experiencing homelessness may be at risk for infection during an outbreak of COVID-19. This interim guidance is intended to support response planning by homeless service providers, including overnight emergency shelters, day shelters, and meal service providers.
