This paper seeks to illustrate the impact of human trafficking on Native women and girls in our times, with particular attention to the historical context in the United States and the interconnection between trafficking and housing instability.

In June 2019, a group of domestic violence organizations convened to establish a National Workgroup on Safe Housing for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) Survivors of Gender-Based Violence. This report details themes that emerged from the convening, lessons learned, and recommendations for increasing access to safe and affordable housing for AI/AN survivors of gender-based violence.

This Research-to-Impact brief elevates the voices of young people whose pathways into homelessness included time in foster care and points to opportunities for prevention and intervention. It also highlights ways in which federal policies and programs can be leveraged so that young people don’t experience homelessness.

This brief provides a synthesis of the research connecting housing instability, economic insecurity, substance misuse, and domestic violence. It also includes a short discussion of the broad social context in which patterns of domestic violence occur and a series of recommendations for decision makers, policy developers, and organizational leaders working to prevent domestic violence in their communities.

This longitudinal needs assessment was designed and implemented to learn how Safe Horizon, a domestic violence service provider, can better support emergency domestic violence shelter residents both during and after their stay in shelter.

Survivors face numerous barriers to keeping or trying to access safe housing. In NRCDV's August 2018 TA Question of the Month, Kris Billhardt of the National Alliance for Safe Housing explores ways that advocates and housing providers can collaborate to meet survivors' housing needs.

Several studies have demonstrated a positive relationship between exposure to natural disasters or other extreme events and rates of interpersonal violence (IPV), and people experiencing IPV in the post-disaster period may face unique barriers, including loss of access to safe housing and a need to remain with family to qualify for or obtain financial assistance and other types of disaster aid. This report assesses the potential association between exposure to natural disasters and reports of IPV.
